What makes them float
I'm often asked how are these shelves are attached to the wall. The picture below gives a view of the shelf from the back, showing the "keyhole" slots cut into each of the vertical members.

Each keyhole is matched to a screw placed in the wall. These screws are supplied to you when you buy the shelf, The next picture is an example of how the mounting screws would look when properly placed into the wall. Each mounting screw is placed with the head of the screw proud of the wall by about 1/4 inch. This allows the screw to properly "hook" into the keyhole of the shelf. Getting the mounting screws properly placed on the wall is not difficult. We've made that the easiest part. Click on the video icon the see how easy this is.

As the picture below shows, once the shelf is properly mounted on the screws, they are concealed and the shelf appears to be floating.

The shelves are built of solid 3/4 inch by 5 and 1/2 inch solid oak planks.   The oak planks are joined by two 1 and 1/2 inch   #8 cabinet screws, capped with an oak plug and sanded down to the surface of the plank.
